Super Smash Bros. Brawl stumbles out of the gate

It’s finally here. After months of anticipation, Super Smash Bros. Brawl has finally hit North American shores. Unfortunately, it seems as though some people may have to do some more waiting. Nintendo has stated that “a very small percentage” of Wii consoles are not able to read the Brawl game disc. Due to the incredible wealth of content contained within the game, Brawl is making use of a double-layer disc that has a larger capacity than the normal discs used for Wii games. Some Wii consoles may have trouble reading this new disc type, but luckily, it is a relatively easy fix and Nintendo will fix the problem at no cost.

Should you find that your copy of Brawl isn’t working, head over to Nintendo’s support website to have your Wii sent in and fixed. It’s definitely a bummer considering that Brawl has been one of the most anticipated games for Wii, but at least Nintendo has acknowledged the problem and is dealing with it in a responsible way.

I have nothing but praise for Nintendo’s Customer Support. I recently had to contact Nintendo because my copy of Wii Sports no longer worked (apparently other people have been experiencing this problem as well). The customer service representative said he’d send me a new copy, but informed me that it could take a while since they didn’t have any in stock at the time. About a week later, I received my copy of Wii Sports in the mail. Nintendo’s quick response to the Brawl problem has only served to reaffirm my belief that Nintendo sits in the upper echelon when it comes to technical support.
