In yesterday’s article, I talked about iTunes and how it has changed the music industry and the way we receive our content. Video games are also starting to shape the music landscape, as can be seen with the wild success of Rock Band and Guitar Hero and their downloadable content.
Recently, it was announced that Amazon.com and Rockstar Games are teaming up to offer gamers a way to purchase songs they hear in GTA IV. To purchase a song, gamers simply need to dial a phone number with GTA IV’s in-game cellphone and choose to purchase the track from Amazon.com. What’s different from Rock Band and Guitar Hero however, is that these songs are not restricted just to the game itself, but rather, can be played on PCs and other devices.
