It looks like Grand Theft Auto IV isn’t just one of the best games of all time, it was also the most expensive to make. With almost four years of work and a production crew of over 1,000 people, Grand Theft Auto IV has secured its place as the most expensive game title to date, costing $100 million to produce, topping Sega’s Shenmue, released in 1999 and costing $70 million.

Wow…I haven’t played GTA IV yet, but from what I’ve seen it doesn’t look like it would have been nearly as expensive to make as that. What makes the production of a game like that so pricey?

They really have to invest in it. If they’re going to make a new GTA it has to be much better than the former versions and that’s a bit hard since the GTAs are fantastic.
